Mama, Let’s Snap Back: Postpartum Fitness Essentials You’ll Love

Hey sis, let me keep it real with you for a second. Life after kids hits different, doesn’t it? I had my daughter, thought I’d have all this time to “get my body back,” and then—boom—I was pregnant again. My son and my daughter are barely a year apart, so I didn’t even get a chance to lose the weight from my first pregnancy before I was waddling around again. Now that my son is almost 1 (and officially mobile), I’ve decided it’s time to do something for me.

I want to get in the best shape of my life, not just to look good (though, let’s be honest, that’s part of it), but to feel strong, healthy, and capable. Chasing two little ones all day is a workout in itself, but I need energy and endurance to keep up. And most importantly, I want to feel good in my own skin again. You know that feeling when you just feel unstoppable? That’s what I’m chasing.

But before we dive into this list of essentials, let me say this: if you’re newly postpartum, please check in with your healthcare provider before starting any fitness routine. Your body has been through so much, and it’s important to make sure you’re cleared to work out, especially if you had a C-section or complications. No rushing, mama—we’re in this for the long haul.

Okay, now let’s talk about what you actually need to start this journey. I’m all about keeping it simple, affordable, and realistic because we don’t have time (or money) to waste. Here’s my list of must-haves, all Amazon-approved because, let’s face it, getting to the store with two kids isn’t always happening.

1. Waist Trainer

This waist trainer is my go-to for extra support, especially during core workouts. A good waist trainer can help with posture and provide that little extra motivation when you’re trying to snatch that waist. Just make sure you’re not overdoing it—it’s a tool, not a miracle worker!

2. Sweat Enhancer Gel Stick

Okay, so I’m usually not a hypebeast but I just had to give this sweat enhancer stick a try and not even lying, I’m SO glad I did. I literally sweat so much when I apply this before working out. Pair this with the waist trainer, chef’s kiss!

3. Dumbbells (Set of 3-5 lbs)

You don’t need a whole gym, but a couple of dumbbells will take your home workouts to the next level. These are perfect for strength training, which is a must for building muscle and toning up. Start light and work your way up—you’ve got time, sis.

4. Large Water Jug

Hydration is key, especially if you’re breastfeeding. I got myself one of these big jugs with time markers, and it’s been a game-changer. Plus, seeing it on the counter all day is a constant reminder to keep sipping.

5. High-Waisted Workout Shorts

Trust me, the right pair of workout shorts can make all the difference. These high-waisted ones hold everything in place, so you can focus on your workout instead of adjusting your clothes every five minutes.

6. Resistance Bands

These resistance bands are perfect for targeting your lower body without heavy weights. They’re also super compact, so you can toss them in a diaper bag if you’re working out at the park while the kids play.

7. Jump Rope

Cardio, but make it quick and effective. A jump rope is cheap, easy to use, and burns a ton of calories in a short amount of time. Plus, the kids think it’s hilarious when I mess up and trip over it.

8. Bluetooth Headphones

Because sometimes you need your playlist to drown out the chaos. These affordable headphones are perfect for working out and allow you to put on your favorite hype music —it literally makes all the difference in staying motivated.

9. Fitbit Fitness Tracker

You may not think so, but let me tell you, tracking my steps, workouts, and even sleep has kept me accountable. The Fitbit literally does all of that and is perfect for those who aren’t a fan of the Apple Watch (here’s a link for the Apple Watch if you want to compare for yourself).

10. Supportive Sports Bra

If you’re breastfeeding, you already know the struggle. This sports bra will keep you supported and comfortable no matter what kind of workout you’re doing. Bonus points if it’s nursing-friendly!

11. Cute Sneakers

Girl, listen. You do not need to break the bank for a good pair of workout shoes! Grab these cute little ASICS and call it a day! They’re so comfortable for working out and also cute enough for running errands.

12. Yoga Socks

If you’re not a fan of wearing sneakers during indoor workouts, these yoga socks are perfect for you! Of course, they’re anti-slip to make doing your workouts easier. When my workout doesn’t include heavy weights, then I usually prefer to wear these!

13. Foam Roller

This foam roller is a lifesaver, especially when your muscles start feeling sore. After a good workout (or even a long day of being a mom), this is perfect for releasing tension and helping your body recover. Bonus: it’s like a mini massage at home.

14. Ankle Weights

Want to level up your leg day without a ton of effort? Strap on some ankle weights! These babies are amazing for toning your legs and glutes, and you can even wear them while walking around the house. Multitasking, anyone?

15. Large Workout Mat

Listen, a comfy mat is non-negotiable. Whether you’re doing yoga, stretching, or quick ab circuits while the kids nap, you need a space that’s all yours. Bonus: the mat can double as a play area for the baby while you squeeze in a workout.

16. Mini Stair Stepper

This little gadget is perfect if you’re short on time and space. A mini stepper gives you a great cardio workout while you’re watching Netflix or supervising the kids’ chaos. It’s low-impact but still gets your heart rate up.

17. Yoga Blocks

If you’re new to yoga or just want to stretch deeper, yoga blocks are your best friend. They help with balance and flexibility, especially when you’re easing back into working out postpartum. Your body will thank you!

18. Food and Fitness Journal/Planner

A good ole planner is definitely an essential when it comes to keeping track of your fitness journey. I don’t know about you, but I cannot just wing it when it comes to planning my meals and workouts. This journal helps me plan everything out week by week.

19. Weighted Hula Hoop

This one’s for fun and fitness. A weighted hula hoop is amazing for toning your core, and let’s be real—your kids will love trying to use it too. It’s a whole vibe and makes working out feel less like a chore.

That’s it, girl! Remember, you don’t need a fancy gym or expensive equipment to start feeling like yourself again. What matters most is that you’re showing up for YOU. Whether it’s 10 minutes a day or a full hour, every little bit counts.

And if you slip up, skip a day, or eat half a sleeve of Oreos while hiding from the kids (been there), give yourself grace. This is a journey, not a race.

Now, let’s do this! Which item are you grabbing first? Let me know—I’d love to cheer you on!
