8 Newborn Must-haves That I Used The Most as a First-time Mom

This post is so special to me because it’s my first post about my baby girl! 🙂 The little one is 8 months now, but OH, what an 8 months it’s been?!

I’ve been babysitting my nieces, nephews, and little cousins since I was like 10 years old, not even kidding. But not even that could’ve prepared me for having my own child. It’s completely different!

Regardless of the long nights and running off of fumes, motherhood has been absolutely the best thing ever! Seriously. In addition to enjoying it so much, I’ve been learning so much along the way!

I did so much research trying to ensure I had everything needed to be prepared for my baby girl’s arrival, and for the most part I definitely felt like I was prepared, maybe even a little OVERPREPARED.

There were some things that were bought and still haven’t been used, just sitting in the closet waiting to be re-gifted.

One thing that actually surprised me as a first-time mom is that you really don’t need much. I’m sure I’m not the only one that overbought out of the fear of not having every little thing I need. Okay, moment of honesty, sometimes I did just buy things because I thought they were so cute, and I just couldn’t resist.

I would suggest just starting with the basics and then once your little one gets here, you’ll start to figure out the things you actually need.

From my experience, here are 8 products (not listed in any particular order) that you will absolutely love and find to be most essential in the first few months with your newborn:

Must-have #1

Nose Frida– I use this so often, that I would say it’s time for another one, but it’s still holding up pretty good. Within the first couple of weeks, baby girl had a stuffy nose that lasted for a couple of weeks but would often reoccur. Her pediatrician confirmed that it’s perfectly normal as she adjusts to her new environment. The Nose Frida makes it extremely easy to use your mouth to suction the snot and boogers out of your little one’s tiny nose.

Must-have #2

Cool Mist Humidifier– In addition to the Nose Frida, I use this humidifier that was actually recommended by her pediatrician to help with baby girl’s congestion. This helps keep the air in the room cool and moist, especially during the winter months with the heat running.

Must-have #3

Nail Trimmer– Okay, so maybe it’s just me, but I cannot bring myself to use nail clippers on my baby’s tiny little fingernails. I’ve been using this electric nail trimmer since she was literally days old to keep her from scratching her precious little face! It doesn’t bother her at all, and she lets me trim her nails without a fuss. It also comes with different file pads to use based on the baby’s age, so you can use this as your baby grows.

Must-have #4

Sound Machine– This sound machine has been used from day one, literally. I packed it in my hospital bag, and it ended up being so necessary as the nurses kept coming in and out of the room. It’s small enough to just clip onto the car seat and take on long car rides or even walks to tune out the background noise. The sounds aren’t overpowering, and it definitely has been an essential part of baby girl’s sleep routine from day one up until now.

Must-have #5

Burp Cloths– And lots of them! I had no idea how many burp cloths I would go through in just one freaking day! These Muslin burp cloths are perfect because of how soft and gentle they are, so they don’t irritate baby girl’s face as I wipe it only 175 times a day :). These cloths also hold up really well, even after being washed a lot!

Must-have #6

Infant Optics Baby Monitor– Okay, so as a first-time mom, I watch over my baby 24/7, like literally every single move she makes. I know, I sound like a crazy person! I really can’t help it though. Using a baby monitor allows me to maximize my time while baby is sleeping. I’m not constantly having to go in the room to check on her, and potentially wake her up. The reason I chose this monitor is because I wanted a closed loop system, that doesn’t use internet connection. Knowing that the camera is only viewable by me gives me a peace of mind when it comes to potential hackers.

Must-have #7

Mylicon Gas Relief Drops– If you don’t already know, you will soon learn that a fussy baby is no fun! In the first few months there could be several things that leads to a gassy baby. These definitely have to be some kind of miracle drops, I mean they work instantly! I’m not even joking. I haven’t found anything that has worked better than these drops when it comes to gas. It literally works within a couple of minutes and helps the gas to pass through.

Must-have #8

Blooming Bath Lotus Bath Seat– This bath cushion is absolutely genius and has been extremely helpful! This will make it so easy for you to bathe your little one in the sink. It’s extremely soft so you won’t have to worry about your baby being uncomfortable. It also supports the baby perfectly, so no fighting to hold on to a slippery newborn during bath time!
