So, I’m a little embarrassed to say this, but you know what? Eff it! Because this could help several other first-time moms out there.
Before having my baby, I just assumed that babies didn’t need lotion. Like, I honestly thought that their skin just stays smooth and soft until they hit the toddler stage. Boy was I wrong!
I went through a couple of different issues with my daughter’s skin, starting when she was just a couple of weeks old.
Her face would just get irritated, and she would get red bumps on both of her cheeks. It would heal after a few days, but then it would just come back!
She also had dry patches that her pediatrician advised were possibly due to eczema. It was at that appointment her doctor explained how important it is to moisturize babies daily. I definitely learned something new that day!
My daughter’s pediatrician explained that the rash that would appear on her cheeks was likely a drool rash. She advised that keeping baby girl’s face moisturized would help protect it from the irritation.
After months of trial and error, I now know exactly which products to use on my daughter and for which reason to use it on her. For the past 2 months, my baby girl’s skin has been so soft and smooth, and I love that she isn’t irritated by any rashes or anything!
Below, I’ve shared the 5 products that I now swear by as part of my daughter’s skin care routine. I also shared the reason that I use each product.

Burt’s Bees Baby Healing Ointment
This is used every morning and night as baby girl’s daily moisturizer. I love it because it has a very light scent and it’s thick (but not too thick) so it really locks in moisture, leaving her skin super soft all day.
Shea Moisture Baby Wash & Shampoo
I’ve tried a few different body washes with baby girl and this is by far my fave! This body wash is extremely rich and silky and lathers up really good. You will actually feel how moisturized and soft this leaves your baby’s skin after using it.
California Baby Eczema Cream
A miracle in a jar is what this should’ve been called. After months of trying to heal baby girl’s eczema, I finally came across this and OMG! Let’s just say this is the only thing I will ever use and recommend for baby eczema. What I could not heal after trying for a few months, was healed in literally 2 days with this cream. I don’t use this daily, only as needed.
Boudreaux’s Butt Paste
I know you’ve probably seen this tube at some point in your life, but this cream is the truth! With baby girl sleeping for longer stretches during the night, she began getting irritation on her bottom. I acted fast because I did not want her having to deal with a horrible diaper rash. This cream worked overnight to heal the little diaper irritation she did have. Ever since, I’ve been using it each night during her diaper change before she goes to bed.
Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment
Okay, so I try to stay on top of trimming baby girl’s nails, but they grow so fast! Whenever she happens to scratch herself on her face or anywhere else on her body, this is my go-to. This always works like super quickly to heal her scratches, leaving behind no scar.
